Playable Species for Mausritter
A downloadable game
These are 10 playable species compatible with Mausritter, each with descriptions, associated stat adjustments, level abilities, unique art, and rolls tables for quirks, physical details, and birth signs.
The species are as follows: Chipmunk, Garter (snake), Little Mole, Lizard, Long-Toe (salamander), Mouse, Toad, Tree Frog, Tree Vole, and Water Shrew.
All 10 are based on real species native to Western Oregon but could easily be generalized or reflavored as other similar species to fit different settings.

I was so thrown when I realized the Long-Tail was a, well, Long-Tail, and not our own local boy, the rough-skinned newt. I almost never see salamanders in my part of the valley! But oh my gosh, this seems so cute! This makes me want to try Mausritter. :)
Long toed salamander's are also local! I thought about using rough skinned newts, but wanted something smaller and a little less poisonous as a player character :)
Oh, yeah, they're totally local! We just don't get a lot of 'em around here, so it was interesting to me! That said, your logic makes perfect sense to me. Better luck next time, rough-skinned newts. <3
If it helps, I'm planning on statting them out as an NPC race eventually. Here's a little watercolor I did (that could use some touching up) of a swashbuckling rough-skinned newt merchant! Hawking goods to some mouse adventurers.
I don't play Mausritter but western Oregon ecology represent!! Maybe now I'll have to give it a try :)
Woot! Invite friends over for a game night and ambush them with facts about native ecology and our fragile ecosystems🌲🌲🌲
